Camden Council Circleslide Entrance Door

Boon Edam’s entry expertise ensures a bespoke solution for Camden Council’s BREEAM project

ASHFORD, UNITED KINGDOM - Camden Council’s new 14 storey building, 5 St Pancras Square is host to council offices, a leisure centre, café and a library. This innovative building is classed as one of the leading green buildings in the UK; having achieved an ‘outstanding’ BREEAM sustainability rating. Every part of the design required careful consideration to achieve this rating. So, when selecting the door entrances for the award-winning building, Boon Edam, the global market leader in entry solutions was consulted. The entry solution needed to fit the building’s sustainability, security, service and design criteria to seamlessly integrate with the existing design. With 140 years’ experience and a portfolio of products to accommodate a range of entry requirements, Boon Edam’s experts were able to provide the ideal solution using the Circleslide product range. Not only did the product successfully integrate with the building’s design; but it was also able to mitigate any concerns regarding energy loss. The Circleslide, consists of two sets of curved automatic sliding doors. This selection ensured that the elegant rounded look of a revolving door was achieved, along with meeting the high capacity throughput demands; realised by a wider throat opening design. This design of door is also DDA compliant in order to provide disabled access without the need for a separate pass door to be installed; this was a key criteria for the council building. The technology incorporated into the product’s mechanism ensures extremely quiet and smooth movement of the doors, whilst the air curtains installed inside the building lobby are designed to effectively reduce the air exchange and infiltration at entrances. This ensures that the entrance lobby can regulate the internal temperature as part of the building energy efficiency. Ian Goldsmith, Head of Sales at Boon Edam Ltd commented, “We are thrilled to have been able to provide an entry solution for this building. Through close collaboration, we were able to determine the exact requirements and provide the ideal solution for this outstanding project.”

Boon Edam’s Swinglane 900 Wide

Boon Edam Ltd announces release of new, updated BIM Objects

ASHFORD, UNITED KINGDOM - Boon Edam, the market leader in innovative and quality entry solutions, has announced its latest partnership with The National BIM Library. The fastest growing Building Information Modelling (BIM) library in the UK will showcase the entry experts’ two latest product releases; the Swinglane 900 Wide and the Speedlane 900 Wide.  Following the UK government’s decision to make the use of BIM mandatory on all public-sector projects, BIM has altered the way in which buildings, infrastructure and utilities are planned, designed and managed. Boon Edam, the first manufacturer of revolving doors to offer BIM objects, has ensured its product range is readily available to support architects and contractors throughout their BIM projects. The NBS National BIM Library now hosts 17 of its products, available in both Revit and IFC. The Swinglane 900, is a fail-safe security barrier composed of slim, stainless cabinets, a glass swinging door wing and an advanced sensor system. The long detection lane creates accurate tailgating detection and high capacity throughput of up to 30 people per minute. This product is designed to reduce the pressure on staff to track visitors, by accurately recognising that only authorised visitors can enter certain sections of the building. The Swinglane 900 allows for certain bespoke customisations to be made for clients requiring a unique style and finish.  Like all Boon Edam secured entry solutions, the Speedlane 900 can be easily integrated with virtually any access control system. A high capacity throughput of 30 people per minute can be achieved due to the design of the quick sliding motion of the door wings. With multiple door wing heights available, it has been specifically created to adapt to the requirements of a security entrance system. The glass construction of the door wings and the rounded cabinet design ensures a comfortable, non-intrusive user experience.  The Swinglane 900 Wide and the Speedlane 900 Wide are both compliant with DDA legislation; with both products providing suitable entrance solutions when catering for disabled access lanes. The width of the disabled access lanes can be adapted from the standard 500mm to 900mm, depending on the requirements of the building. This is achieved through the design of the two door wings, ensuring that the level of security is not compromised.  Using its dedicated, internal Specification Managers and CAD technicians, Boon Edam can support its customers to ensure the correct products are specified at design stage helping to give greater clarity for all stakeholders across the project lifecycle.  Notes to Editors:  The full Swinglane 900 and Speedlane 900 ranges are now included within one BIM object accessible via the NBS National BIM Library – for the Swinglane 900 range download here and for the Speedlane 900 range download here.

New Lifeline Speedlane’s Slim Body Catches the Eye Down Under

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – Boon Edam Australia recently installed their first order of the Lifeline Series Speedlane, speed gates. The smooth installation was for a company within the sensitive financial sector who had a low security need to control the access of their staff on various floors of their building. The installation coincided with a floor-by-floor refurbishment over 3 floors, with the average throughput per floor being 120. Innovative Tall Glass Solution The wide version of the Speedlane Swing speed gate is able to be supplied, as standard to a height of 1800mm, with an easy, clear passage of 915mm. In this particular installation, the client was determined that the clear gap when the doors were open was 1000mm – a non-standard specification. Working together, we were able to meet this customised need by lowering the door height to 1650mm, which reduced the overall weight. This innovative solution accommodated the extra wide passageway, and still remained within the safety tested limits of the product. Product Design Secured The Order Our, then, newly launched speed gate was first seen at last year’s Security 2015 exhibition held in Melbourne. The Security Manager for this project was so impressed by the product design, the order was secured almost right away. Slimness and high quality aesthetics were, without doubt, key design aspects in being awarded this contract. Alastair Russell, National Sales Manager, Boon Edam Australia says: "I remember the client was one of the first visitors to our exhibition stand that year and when he left us, I knew I had just secured the very first installation of the Lifeline series Speedlanes in Australia". Further Installations The same client has since secured a further order in another Sydney location of 4 double units spread over the same number of floors. Security Essen 2016 We will be showcasing this new addition to our Lifeline series Speedlanes at Security Essen 2016 between 27 – 30th September, and would love you to pop in and see us at stand number 3B84. This year’s exhibit promised to be well worth the trip with a stand full of aesthetic and intuitive safety products.
